![]() ![]() The Lalique Six Pillars Collection was inspired by The Macallan’s founding principals: The Macallan’s collaboration with renowned French glass maker Lalique produced some of the oldest expression ever bottled by the distillery. We’ve started putting a list together of some of The Macallans that have been released over the years: ![]() In 2017 the new £100 million Macallan distillery was completed. The Macallan has become known for its investment potential as well as the quality of its whisky, with rare bottles regularly breaking records at auction. The first single cask bottling, Exceptional Single Cask 1, was launched in 2000. In the mid-1990s The Macallan was purchased by Highland Distillers and became part of Edrington in 1999. The management team re-positioned the distillery as a ‘first-growth whisky’ and oversaw an innovative advertising campaign (commemorated in The Archival Series which began in 2015). ![]() The downturn of the early 1980s led The Macallan to focus on the emerging single malt category and it began to establish itself as one of the world’s most popular and collectable single malts. By 1975 the then 21 still plant was regarded as an important malt for blends. ![]() In 1892 the distillery passed to Roderick Kemp, former owner of Talisker, whose descendants retained ownership until the 1990s. What began as two stills housed in a wooden shed has grown to a 36 still site today. Taking inspiration from The Macallan’s iconic triangle and designed to celebrate its natural color, Rare Cask is presented in a sculpted, heavy glass decanter. The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by barley farmer Alexander Reid. Far less than 1% of casks maturing at the distillery have been identified as fitting to bestow the Rare Cask name – and enable the creation of this multifaceted single malt. With rarity at its core, this is a whisky that will slightly differ in makeup from bottling to bottling with some casks so rare they will never be used again in any other Macallan. This relationship between cask and craftsman, spirit and skill, ultimately give us Rare Cask. It is the role of the whisky making team to get to know each and every cask in detail, from how it interacts with the spirit to the spectrum of colours it imparts. Incomparable access to the most extensive range of cooperages in Spain gives us some of the finest and scarcest casks to choose from to create Rare Cask, which results in a diversity in the finished whisky unlike other Macallan expression. Hand-picked by our whisky making team, the combination of sherry seasoned American and European oak casks - a high proportion of them first fill - deliver an exquisite and unmistakably woody whisky with a rich hue. Rare Cask combines knowledge, skill, passion, commitment and creativity to create a remarkable whisky worthy of its name.Ĭrafted to showcase complexity and depth, Rare Cask is drawn from the broadest spectrum of casks used in maturation on The Macallan Estate. Vanilla and chocolate lead the finale along with a light citrus zest. PALATE Oak resonates, timeless, polished and rich. NOSE Soft notes of opulent vanilla and raisin pique the nose, giving way to a sweet ensemble of apple, lemon and orange. This is Macallan at its most traditional and best. 2 is the second release of Rare Cask out of three. Macallan Rare Cask is a small-batch release from the well known Speyside distillery, bringing together just 50 sherry butts to craft a rich and fruity dram. ![]()
